“Without Adoption, It’s Not A Product” by Henrik Göthberg (DAIRDUX)
- Tuesday, June 11, 2024
- 9:30 AM 10:00 AM
Abstract
Peter Drucker said that “the greatest danger in times of turbulence is not the turbulence; it’s to act with yesterday’s logic”. The volume, velocity, and variety of Data & AI use cases is accelerating. Product development must be adoption-centered to deal with a world that is increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA). This keynote spotlights ways of thinking and working that we believe are more in tune with this new normal.
Biography
*Henrik Göthberg*, with over 20 years of experience in data, AI, and business strategy, has led core business functions with advanced data and technology teams at Vattenfall and Scania, bridging the Biz-Analytics-Data-IT gap to drive innovation. “Product Manager vs Product Owner – Why Do Companies Still Struggle 23 Years After the Agile Manifesto?” by Hans-Bernd Kittlaus (InnoTivum)
- Tuesday, June 11, 2024
- 10:30 AM 11:00 AM
Abstract
The term “product owner” was introduced with Scrum in the mid-1990’s when the product manager role had already been established in larger companies of the software industry. When a software organization tries to implement Scrum or a similar agile approach, the understanding and cooperation of “product manager” and “product owner” is usually a big problem that can have a very negative impact on productivity. In this presentation, we look at most recent survey results, analyze where the problem comes from, why it is so difficult to solve, and how solutions can look like in different scenarios.
Biography
*Hans-Bernd Kittlaus* is the chairman of ISPMA e.V. He is also the owner and managing director of InnoTivum Consulting which he founded in 2001. Before, he was Director of SIZ GmbH (Computing Center of the German Savings Banks Organization, Germany) and Head of Software Product Management and Development units of IBM. His main focus area is software product management. Hans-Bernd has been working as a trainer, coach and consultant for both product units and corporate IT organizations in a number of industries. He has trained hundreds of product managers in about 100 SPM training courses including all ISPMA training modules. He is a frequent presenter at conferences and has published numerous books and articles, his latest being “Software Product Management: The ISPMA-Compliant Study Guide and Handbook, 2nd Edition” (Springer 2022), and “Software Product Management for Startups: The ISPMA-Compliant Study Guide and Handbook” (with Haragopal Mangipudi, InnoTivum/guNaka 2023). He is Diplom-Informatiker (corresponds to M.S. in Computer Science) and certified as Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), and PRINCE2 Practitioner. He is a faculty member of Hari Shankar Singhania School of Business (HSB), Jaipur, Rajasthan, India, where the first 2-year full-time MBA program with specialization in digital product management is started in 2024.

“The case for open strategy” by Morten Elvang (openstrategy.works)
- Tuesday, June 11, 2024
- 1:30 PM 2:00 PM
Abstract
Significant shifts are occurring in strategy and its execution. Traditionally, the strategy process is top-driven, measured in annual budget or planning cycles, and employs a cascading approach to engage the organization. For decades, organizations and leaders have struggled to make this approach work. Increasing complexity and uncertainty demand more frequent adjustments, further challenging the traditional strategy approach. Rather than trying to fix the inherent issues of the cascading approach, it is time to revisit fundamental assumptions about the role of strategy.
Open strategy emphasizes inclusion, transparency, and adaptability. For product and value-centric organizations, collaborative lean portfolio management offers a practical way to implement open strategy without extensive organizational redesign or lengthy transformation processes. It requires a new stance and determination to operate from a fresh set of principles. This presentation will explore the why, what, and how of open strategy, providing insights and actionable steps to help you get started with both the thinking and the execution.
Biography
*Morten Elvang* received his MSc and PhD in Computer Science from the Technical University of Denmark. Morten believes that everyone deserves the freedom to perform and opportunity to contribute. He has helped product and service development teams of all sizes to gain better results with less hassle.

“Efficient Product Management with Product Operations” by Bogdan Moroz (Observis & LUT University)
- Wednesday, June 12, 2024
- 10:00 AM 10:30 AM
Abstract
In growing organizations, Product Managers are increasingly overwhelmed by the demands of numerous customers, features, products, and data, leaving little time for strategic development. The balance between essential tasks and administrative burdens often prevents them from focusing on creating sustainable value. Solutions like Product Owners, Associate Product Managers, and Product Operations have been proposed to redistribute responsibilities. Despite some resistance to these roles, Product Ops professionals argue they are essential for efficient company growth, not merely assistants. This presentation will highlight findings from a grounded theory study on Product Ops, detailing their responsibilities, success factors, challenges, and variations in implementation. It aims to spark a discussion on how Product Operations can ease the workload of Product Managers and enhance organizational efficiency.
Biography
*Bogdan Moroz* is a lead developer at a Finnish software company Observis and a doctoral researcher at LUT University. In his doctoral research, he is focused on the discipline of Product Operations, tooling and methodologies for effective product management, product-led growth, and operation at scale.

But wait, which value are we talking about? And how do we know when the value has been achieved or created - when is it time to stop investing?
That’s where the Value First technique comes in. We’ll use it to measure and quantify specific values in your product or service. We’ll also visualize the different levels of value that we are happy with, take a look at the current situation and goals, and see how all the values are connected.

The MAYA Principle
Loewy’s secret was essential to design for the future – but delivering the future gradually. He designed his famous logos, some of the most recognizable cars of the 40s, 50s, and 60s, refrigerators, and locomotives for his users’ present needs and skills while pushing the boundaries of design and technology beyond his users’ expectations. He called this approach the MAYA principle. Maya is an abbreviation for “Most Advanced. Yet Acceptable.” which means that Loewy sought to give his users the most advanced design, but not more advanced than what they were able to accept and embrace
Learn to design for the future, while balancing your design with your users’ present stage of skills and mindset. This is called the MAYA Principle and it’s the secret behind the industrial design of the Coca-Cola bottle, Shell Oil logo, and the Greyhound logo.

“From Research to Product - And Back Again: The Case of the eknows Software Analysis Platform” with Rudolf Ramler
Software Competence Center Hagenberg → CH
- Wednesday, June 12, 2024
- 4:00 PM 4:15 PM
Abstract
Research in reverse engineering and software analysis has been an active research direction at the Software Competence Center Hagenberg for many years. At SCCH, we have conducted several research projects with industry to address a range of practical needs, such as recovering critical domain knowledge from legacy code, generating documentation for large heterogeneous software systems, or supporting technology migration and evolution. These projects led to the development of a multi-language software platform (eknows) for building reverse engineering tools and documentation generators. The spin-off company Sysparency was founded to promote further industrial applications. This case illustrates the path from research to the development of a product and new services. While initially inspired by a research idea, each step forward was driven by industry needs and executed in close collaboration with practitioners. Key lesson: Research travels both ways!
Biography
Rudolf Ramler is a research manager at the Software Competence Center Hagenberg (SCCH), Austria. His mission and passion are to support industry in transforming research results into successful practical solutions. He has more than 20 years of experience in applied research in software engineering, with a focus on software quality assurance and testing.
